From my family boxes and travels I THINK it is a mortar (missing the Pestle), with a carved exterior of possibly a Chinese face, continuing around with ears and hair at the back. Heavy item - 860 grams. 10.75 cm diameter and 10.5 cm height. There is a black mark and crack on the back, the top had something on it too, long gone but the glue is still there and a bit flaky. It would make a beautiful plant pot or container to display things.
